Start young

If you want to advise someone how to begin a career in softball umpiring, tell him/her that the minor/coach pitch level is without question the place to start. Comprised of players in the 7-9 age group, coach pitch gives an umpire the opportunity to work a real game without the pressures of more advanced levels. In coach pitch you will not have to worry about balls and strikes, allowing you to focus more on plays in the field.
