Back in the days of yore, I was an up-and-coming English major at the University of New Hampshire with hopes and dreams of becoming a famous newspaper writer. My dad was (and still is) a newspaper editor, and I wanted to get into the family business. But those dreams were dashed one day in 1992 when I discovered the following:
- A cub reporter has a starting salary of around $22,000 a year;
- You work mainly at night;
- Did I mention the $22,000 a year thing?
I don't know about you, but those are some major hurdles for me. My Play Station and games cost more than $22,000. Well, not really, but you get my drift. $22,000 a year is plenty if you don't mind your walls being made of the Play Station cardboard box.
Also, my nights are totally dedicated to video games (mainly Grand Theft Auto, Vice City, and The Getaway), the guitar, watching sports, my fantasy teams, and officiating. Oh, my wife Jenny too ... I guess.
